When you get right down to it, the internet is THE market place these days. The reason many of us turned online was to either…
- market our existing offline business online to get more customers
- start an online part of our business, selling product directly to customers
- start an online “side” business to supplement income and help make ends meet.
That’s pretty much it.
And yet, most people have a hard time making even ONE sale online. Why is that? The fact is, no one had to show you how to BUY online, but selling online is another story.
So how do you sell online?
Because I run a web marketing company, it seems that I get asked that one question more than any other. And to answer it COMPLETELY would take up a lot of time.
The reason is because there are a lot of moving parts with any sales process you create online. And each part needs to be tested.
Let me repeat that last point again…
You must TEST each and every piece of your online sales process in order to get it right.
By the way, because I KNOW keyword research cold, I can tell you that LOTS of people are looking to short-cut the process. Keywords like “fast way to make money” or “earn money fast online” only highlight the point I’m making about testing your process in order to make real money…

Your Web Marketing Minute: Understanding SEO
Have you recently received any phone calls or found some dubious emails promising to get your website to the first page of Google and/or Yahoo?
Just the other day someone called my office and told me that they “worked with Google and Yahoo” and was I interested in learning more?
“Google AND Yahoo” I replied. Playing naive I congratulated him on holding down TWO jobs in a tough economy.
Some awkward silence and audible throat clearing later, it was his turn to admit that he didn’t ACTUALLY work with those companies. Only that he could get my site to the top of the rankings.
“Well, good for you. Where does your site rank for SEO on Google?” I asked.
Silence.

There is one caveat, however. Getting on the first page, and having that translate to action, depends on:
- targeting the “right” keywords that triggers your site showing up in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page)
- using a description that entices someone searching to click on your listing versus the other sites displayed on the SERP
- and using effective copy once someone lands on your website
