Do You OWN Your Website…

Or are you merely renting?  What do we mean by that?

Well, for instance, here’s a quick list that would indicate if you are simply “renting” your site.

  1. Your site is hosted by your web developer
  2. You cannot EASILY add, change, edit or modify content on your site
  3. You do not OWN your site’s URL (i.e. the http://blahblahblah.com stuff)
  4. Your blog is hosted on a service like blogger.com, etc.

If any of the above describes your situation, your website really owns you!

Let me explain…

When you start out in a new business – most anyone you talk to will tell you:

“starting a business? You’ve gotta get a website!”

And that’s where it begins.

Maybe you’ll get quotes from “pros” who will offer you instant sales making sites if you make a mortgage payment to them.  Or maybe a friend or relative will refer you to someone who’s a “graphic designer” or knows some Photoshop who will create a website for you… for free.

Two ends of the spectrum, to be sure.

But where will following that path lead you?

Ultimately the Only rule you need to follow on your website is this:

Its all about the Content. Make it relevant to their interests. And keep it recent because nobody likes reading old news… you gotta keep it fresh.

Since that IS the key to marketing your business online, here’s the question:  who will update your content?  Will the overpriced pro keep it current for you?  Or is it so custom, so complicated that you can’t USE the darned thing.

Will the friend of a friend doing you a favor take care of your site, WATCH over it like a precious asset for you, for free?  Let’s be real.

So remember this one point…

why you are creating a website in the first place.  You need to:

  1. Understand who the website is for.
  2. What kind of website is it?
  3. Lastly, and most important, who is updating your website?

Who is your website for?

It is not about you. It needs to FOCUS on the marketing message you need/want to communicate to your visitors.

What kind of site is it?

If your site going to be a “static” page (like a brochure site) that just states your business name and contact info, then you might not need to worry too much about updating content.

Of course, if this is the case you’ll have a hard time optimizing your site and building community.

If your website is (or will be) an interactive site, like a BLOG site, then you can respond to your web visitors, create interactivity, and build a community around your website.

Who is (or will be) responsible for updating/maintaining your website?

Will it be you, the people you hired to create the website? Or will you have to hire someone else to maintain and update it? These are the most costly mistakes that can hurt you more than getting your logo design wrong.

Take my word for it, save yourself some dollars, learn as much about web “stuff” as you possibly can, and be watchful of where you are spending your money.

You may be happy with the details you like, however your visitors will have something else to say about that.

Blogging for Business Seminar

From Passion to Profit

Last night Rob and I unveiled the first Phase of our soon to be released “Blogging 4 Business” program.  We had a blast clearing the ground and laying the foundation for online business success.

And I think it’s safe to say that we “blew them away.”

As a way of saying “thanks” we’re giving them a little “link love.”  So check out their sites when you get a chance…

Now, let’s chat a bit about the seminar in particular and the program in general.

This was no rehashing the same old garbage you find online.  We’re talking about cutting edge approaches, developing a business mindset, marketing realities just not discussed anywhere else.

And we have to warn you, when we release portions of the audio and video clips (here and elsewhere) some people are going to be shocked by what they hear!

It won’t be because Rob said it was alright if I used some foul language from time to time (well, okay, more than a few times)!  i couldn’t help myself — I got carried away.  Where I come from, foul language is like an exclamation point!

No, the real reason for some of the shock will be because of the CONTENT that we released to some close friends and associates.  Some “no holds barred” NAKED REALITY. Yes, you read that right…

Quite simply, our goal was to cut through all the clutter to get to the FOUNDATION of internet success so that YOU can apply these proven techniques and principles for your own business.

You see, one problem most folks have when they turn online to find out how to grow their business online is the lack of credible information and resources available.

Previously, here’s what you had as possible “solutions”…

  1. SEO “experts” du-jour taking your money, and sharing no insights with you…
  2. PPC “experts” taking your money while structuring YOUR PPC campaigns to fail… because their 20% override on your ad budget means that the “Google penalty” puts more of YOUR money in THEIR pocket…
  3. tons of “Get rich quick” stuff on how to be an “affiliate marketer” when all you want to know is how to get more leads and business from online

Not exactly a recipe for success, in our humble opinion.

In fact, Kim remarked that she was sick of getting the daily emails from “gurus” pushing one affiliate marketing program after another…

Anyway, there are just a few points I wanted to share with you today…

If the feedback we received last night (and continuing today) is any indicator, we’re going to sell out quick.

After fielding questions and responding to feedback, we decided to GIVE AWAY the first phase of our program.  You read that right.  We’re going to give away all the material we unveiled last night.

What does this include?  How about…

  • The first part of the program guide
  • The Process Map (Phase 1 only)
  • The Worksheets & Tipsheets
  • The audios from last night (once they are ready)
  • The videos from the seminar

This material, on it’s own, could easily sell for $129 (or more).   And to be honest with you, Rob and I haven’t even set the price for the entire program yet.

So what does this mean for you?

Well, be sure to come back from time to time as we get ready to release the free part of our program.  We’ll be releasing more news and details here, so stay tuned.  And if you want to get on our announcement list for when it’s ready for release, kindly leave your name and email below…

Business Blog Marketing: Blogging 4 Business Program

In roughly ten days (April 16th to be exact) Rob and I are hosting a small, private live seminar for some close friends and clients.

The topic?

As the title indicates, we’re covering the four main issues to effectively use blog marketing to grow your business.  The emphasis is on the “business” aspect of blogging, rather than on how to set up a blog, etc. (though we will include a resource kit for those just getting started).

You can think of the program as THE blogging strategy guide taking you step by step to effectively grow your business.

Blogging for Business

The four main topics we’ll discuss are:

  1. Defining Your Business Vision
  2. Crafting a Winning Value Proposition
  3. Creating Your Curriculum
  4. Optimizing Your Business

So why mention this here?

For two reasons.  First, we’ve put together a comprehensive program complete with…

  1. process maps
  2. “how to” information
  3. checklists
  4. worksheets
  5. tipsheets, and
  6. valuable resources

to help you maximize the effectiveness of your blogging efforts.  The idea is to keep you on task and on focus so that time spent blogging leads to bottom line results, i.e. money in your pocket.

Secondly, we are going to capture the event on video.

This means we’ll be adding the audios and DVDs to the program guide for the most comprehensive blogging for business program available.

A number of people wanted to attend, but we had to turn them away.  There just wasn’t enough room at the planned location for the seminar.  Not to mention that this “by invitation only” event was for friends and clients only, with no exceptions.

Now, lots of folks have already expressed interest in our upcoming program.  And we’re in discussion right now with a number of possible JVs who want to release this info to their list.

And here’s where our problem comes in.  At this time we are only willing to release 200 copies of this groundbreaking program.  There’s no guarantee that it will be re-released in the future, for the simple reason that Rob and I are busy working on…

  1. other cutting edge programs to be released this year
  2. client commitments keep us busy
  3. we recently launched another business venture with 2 more scheduled at year end

There’s just too much going on, and too many other opportunities we want to capitalize on.

There’s money to be made, even in this economy, and Rob and I began positioning ourselves to rake in the dough by working on, experimenting with, and perfecting our systems to maximize revenue for ourselves… and our clients.

So what does this mean to you?

Well, here’s what we’re thinking.

All our energy is focused now on completing the tools and resources for our April 16th seminar.  Then Rob will have to edit the audio and video to prep it for production. Our best guess is that the program will be ready by late May.

And once it’s ready, there’s no telling how long it will take to sell out every last copy.

Right now we’re contacting a couple of internet marketers to see if they’d like to offer our program to their list.  We’ve lined up one affiliate with a pretty substantial list. They’ve asked us to set aside some reserve copies for their people, and we’re weighing all the option with logistics and product fulfillment.

Bottom line, here’s what we want to do for our loyal readers.  If you sign up below on our Announcement List, we’ll basically open the doors of our program to you 48 hours before the order links go live and the emails go out to everyone else.

And if all the copies get scooped up before our affiliates can send out their emails, so be it.  We’ll take the flak.  If some JV partners get ticked off at us, so be it.  No big deal.

We’re committed to your success, and this program was put together with folks just like you in mind.  So reserve your spot today.
