Blog Marketing: The Perfect Post Problem

In working with clients over the past two years helping them with setting up blogs and helping them use their blogs effectively to market their business, one issue comes up more than any other.

A LOT more.

The issue?

Paralysis.

In this case, it’s not a question of paralysis by analysis.  99 times out of a 100 it’s a simple case of perfection paralysis.

Let me explain…

Blog Marketing 101

Blogging has made it easier than ever for businesses to communicate with their existing and potential clients and customers. And invite & receive feedback. In real time.

Not to mention that blogs give you an SEO “boost” along with social media distribution tools that traditional websites simply can’t match.

So what’s the problem?

Well, it seems that most people we talk with start off on the right foot.  Most people start blogging right away once they are set up, adding new content nearly every day, if not every week.

Then the weeks and months pass by.  And they post new content less and less frequently.

Some of the problems you may face include:

  • challenges finding “new” things to say/share
  • unable to schedule a schedule to write/post new articles
  • feeling like you are “wasting time” blogging
  • or simple boredom

And the biggest challenge of all:  trying to publish the perfect post.

So what’s the solution?

The ONE Key to Successful Blogging Is…

Consistency.

Plain and simple.

Additionally, there really is no such thing as a “bad” blog post.

Now, you might write an article (many articles) for your blog that nobody reads. Maybe your topic simply doesn’t connect with your audience or potential customer or client.

Is that a bad thing?  Heck no!

And here’s why…

  1. reviewing your Google Analytics stats will help you gain valuable market data
  2. you’ll know which kinds of articles people want to read… or avoid like the plague…
  3. better still, each blog post ADDS one page of content to your website

Why is that last point the most important?

Because one of the drivers for getting high rankings for search engines include:

  1. number of pages for your website
  2. how recently you added/edited content on your website

And that’s a fact.

So regardless of how “perfect” you want your blog posts to be, getting your content “out there” is better than not submitting anything.

Got it?

Web Marketing Minute: Your Target Audience

If you’ve been following our weekly series lately, this week’s topic should come as no surprise: reaching your target audience.

Target marketing has been a buzz word for more than a few years.  Yet, time and again there are folks who nod their head in agreement when we discuss reaching the right audience, then fail to understand the concept.

How do we know?  Because after a few questions it becomes abundantly clear that they are NOT targeting their ideal customer or client profile.  So let’s discuss…

Your Marketing Message: Reaching the Right Audience

Here’s a great example of how badly folks get this point…

A few years ago at a business networking event, I asked a sales person who his ideal customer was. The reason?  Well, if I knew who he was hoping to meet, it would be much easier to refer him possible customers.

His answer was “everybody.”  Not much help there.

So I asked one more time, saying “what does your best customer look like?  Who are they?”

His answer?  A stunned expression.  He really had no idea.

So what is the key?  To be SPECIFIC.  Listen to today’s audio to discover why…
